DVD Bar 'n' Coder™ Software Allows Users to Access Specific Content on DVD-Video Discs with the Use of Printed Barcodes
Pioneer Electronics (USA), Inc. the recognized leader in industrial DVD-Video technology, announced the introduction of its DVD Bar 'n' Coder software for use with the Pioneer DVD-V7400 and barcode readers for Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT/2000 and Macintosh OS 8.5 - 9.x. The software allows users to create and print their own DVD barcodes to target specific audio and video segments on a DVD-Video disc.
With DVD Bar 'n' Coder, teachers, lawyers, corporate trainers, presenters and other users can customize audio and video information on a DVD-Video disc to their specific application. When scanned, the barcodes quickly access and play chosen frames, chapters or titles from the DVD-Video disc - according to the preference of the creator. Unlike rewinding and fast forwarding tapes on VCRs to find the appropriate video segment, DVD barcodes enable seamless searches to an exact point on the DVD-Video disc. With this ability, teachers can create personalized curriculum from any DVD-Video disc in the classroom; attorneys in the courtroom can pinpoint important testimony quickly during trial; and presenters can display supporting content without having to search for the correct location on the disc.
"This flexibility makes the software perfect for environments where particular information must be quickly retrieved to illustrate or support an important point and keep the attention of the audience - in courtroom depositions, corporate presentations, training programs or in the classroom," said Linda Toleno, Vice President of Industrial Sales and Marketing for Pioneer.
Pioneer is currently the only manufacturer to offer an industrial DVD-Video player that can read time codes on DVD-Video discs and equate them to frame numbers. The DVD Bar 'n' Coder software will only work with Pioneer's DVD-V7400 player and its predecessor, the DVD-V7200.
"By giving users the ability to create barcodes that designate pertinent audio and video segments on a disc to be accessed quickly, DVD Bar 'n' Coder software allows users to re-purpose DVD-Video discs for use in a variety of applications," Toleno said.
In addition to providing the ability to design and print a barcode specifying particular audio and video segments to be played, the Bar 'n' Coder software allows -more- creators to change DVD attributes for further customization of the DVD or to re-purpose a generic disc with a special application in mind. With this capability, subtitles can be added, audio tracks chosen and camera angles selected for the distinct portion of the DVD-Video disc that will be viewed.
Using the player control feature of the software also gives users the opportunity to rehearse created barcodes before they are saved and printed. By connecting Pioneer's DVD-V7400 DVD-Video player to a computer, the user can control the player with the DVD Bar 'n' Coder software and test their barcodes by making it easy to search frames, play DVD-Video, fast-forward and reverse and save chapter, title and frame information when creating custom barcodes. "The player control capability of the DVD Bar 'n' Coder software gives the barcode designer the option of watching, choosing and then creating a barcode in one easy step," said Toleno. "With this option, users can create a barcode without having to transfer information back and forth between the DVD player and the computer."
